Orlando police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting outside the Magic Mall on West Colonial Drive near John Young Parkway. The suspect, identified as Keishawn A. Richards, was apprehended by the SWAT team at his residence on Sunday without incident. He is facing charges of manslaughter with a weapon.
The incident was reported to authorities just before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, leading to a swift response with multiple patrol cars arriving at the scene. The victim, Joseph U. Phillips, was found with a gunshot wound and declared deceased by the Orlando Fire Department at the location.
The area around the mall was taped off as a crime scene for several hours, with evidence markers scattered in the parking lot. Investigators focused on two specific vehicles after the arrival of the medical examiner’s office.
Police revealed that the victim was at D’Junction Island Bar and Restaurant when a dispute erupted among individuals in the parking lot. The suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm to target someone in the group, but a stray bullet hit the victim instead.
